Curriculum for Excellence National 4 English (including Literacy)
Course Overview
National 4 English builds on the literacy skills underpinning the whole S1-3 curriculum and specifically the knowledge and understanding developed in English during this time. The aim of the course is to give pupils the widest range of learning opportunities to engage with and examine literature and to create texts of their own.
Assessment
The course comprises of four units - Analysis and Evaluation, Creation and Production, the Added Value Unit and Literacy - and pupils will be assessed across the four elements of reading, writing, listening and talking.
This course is entirely internally assessed.

Progression
Pathways for progression include National 5 English and National 5 Literacy. Pupils may also wish to try National 3 or 4 Media.
