Positive Engagment Hub
The Positive Engagement Hub, room 41 next to the Guidance base, is facilitated by Mrs Erker and Mrs Musgrave, our Positive Engagement Co-ordinators. Their role in school is to support all pupils who are experiencing barriers to education, whether that be through social, emotional or behavioural needs. Their work falls under the following headings:
Reflect and Resolve
Reflect and Resolve is an opportunity for pupils to reflect on an incident, and with the support of our Positive Engagement Co-ordinators, understand how to make positive choices going forward. A restorative approach is adopted and pupils agree their own targets going forward, in addition to continuing with their curricular work in the Positive Engagement Hub.
Promoting Positive Outcomes
This is an early intervention service which supports pupils who are experiencing some barriers to learning. Our Positive Engagement Coordinators will work with pupils from as little as a few periods to a couple of days in order to overcome any issues they are experiencing in class.
Flexible Curriculum Period
This can be used in various ways at LHS. In general this is when a pupil comes out of his/her timetable for a set number of periods for an agreed number of weeks. This is to address particular areas eg. anger, relationships which are providing a barrier for learning for the pupil.
1-2-1
The 1-2-1 service can be offered to pupils to ensure complete privacy when discussing their barriers to learning. The Positive Engagement Coordinators strive to give that young person the time he/she needs on their own.
Group Work
The Positive Engagement Hub offers various groups. The general areas offered are:
- Anger Management
- Team Building
- Relationships
- Confidence/Self-Esteem”
