Chemistry is broken down into 3 units covering a range of topics. Each topic has a variety of practical that can be done to enhance the theory.
Unit 1 - Chemical Changes and Structure
Unit 2 - Nature’s chemistry
Unit 3 - Chemistry in society
The National 4 certificate is awarded on a pass/fail basis. There is no externally marked exam, however, students are passed based on the evidence they have collected in their evidence jotter, together with an extended piece of research (added value unit).
Task 1 A Scientific Report on an experiment
Task 2 End of unit test (Pupils must pass all 3 units - 50% to pass)
Nat 4 - Added value assignment internally marked pass/fail.
