Courses

We have an open door policy in the Biology Department and teachers are always willing to go over work that a pupil may find difficult. There is an expectation of pupil commitment and responsibility for their learning. After school and lunchtime tutorials are available weekly in the run-up to exams for revision purposes and these can help develop confidence in what has been learnt previously.

Within the department it is possible to take several Biology courses:

S3

As part of the CfE BGE (Curriculum for Excellence Broad General Education) pupils can study Introduction to Science or Biology in their third year.

Pupils studying theses course may choose to continue studying National 4 or National 5 Biology in S4. 

S4/S5/S6

As part of the CfE senior phase, pupils can choose National 4 or National 5 Biology.

Pupils successfully completing National 4 Biology can progress onto National 5 Biology.

Pupils who successfully complete National 5 Biology can progress onto Higher Biology in S5.

Pupils can choose Higher or Advanced Higher Biology if they have met the criteria required (a successful pass at National 5 or Higher Biology) to start this level of study.
