Biology

Welcome to LHS Biology Department DNA

Biology is the study of living organisms (how they reproduce, feed, grow, and their effect on the environment).

Within the department it is possible to take several Biology courses:

In S3/4 the courses available are: (3 lessons per week)

    • Access 3
    • Int1
    • Standard Grade

In S5 the courses available are : (5 lessons per week)

    • Int2
    • Higher
    • and in S6, Advanced Higher

virusBoth Dr McCrossan and Mrs Paterson (Principal Teacher) teach all the courses. There is an expectation of pupil commitment and responsibility to their learning and teachers are always willing to go over work that a pupil may find difficult. After school and lunchtime tutorials are available for exam revision and these can help develop confidence in what has been learnt previously.

Biology has an impact on everyone’s life, eg:

  • understanding how to keep ourselves as healthy as possible
  • ensuring our food supplies are reliable
  • enjoying nature
  • understanding how genetics affects us.

This means that Biology is relevant to everyone.
