Visions, Values and Aims
Why do we do Art & Design in secondary school?
Our aim is to help you become more visually aware of the world you see around you- whether it is the natural or man – made world.
The values behind the experiences and outcomes in Art & Design are based upon a Curriculum for Excellence.
• To recognise and appreciate creative and artistic abilities.
• To enhance, inform and enrich creative thinking, artistic talent, and problem solving, through specific and transferable skills.
• To develop an appreciation of aesthetics and culture.
Our vision is to be proactive and enterprising in approach within a rich and supportive environment. To build on our relationships and make links with others.
Projects
Projects and activities which have either taken place or we are developing include:
Film Making (Apple iMovie and Final Cut)
Animation (various applications).
Handmade Cards
Mural Painting
Scottish Arts Council Design Residency
Landscape Painting on Canvas
Pen and Paint Pals - A project exchanging altered books or sketchbooks with pupils in other countries and cultures. We hope to develop links with schools in Hong Kong, Japan and Botswana.
Partnerships
The Art & Design Dept are currently involved in developing live and interactive webcasts with The National Galleries of Scotland.
Our first pilot took place last year and was based on etchings. Pupils had a full day of activities working with a professional printmaker and artist, discussing her work and working on their own ideas. Our live web link with the curators in the print room at the N.G.S gave pupils a great opportunity to see works including Da Vinci’s Dog’s paw which is not normally on show.
Pupils then translated their ideas into etchings at Inverness Printmakers.
