S3 CfE Sciences

There are five options of study available to S3 pupils at Lossiemouth High School.

Introducing Science (3 periods)

Pupils will study science over three periods per week.  They will study a science course that covers a wide range of concepts selected from the level four CfE experiences and outcomes.  Pupils will be prepared for National 4 science courses.  Pupils will develop a wide skill and knowledge base to set a strong foundation for further learning in S4.

Introduction to Biology (3 periods)

Pupils will study Biology over three periods per week.  Pupils will study range of level four CfE experience and outcomes from Biological systems and Topical Science.  Pupils will be prepared for National 4/5 biology courses in S4 (but may opt take up another science course in S4).

Introduction to Chemistry (3 periods)

Pupils will study Chemistry over three periods per week.  Pupils will study range of level four CfE experience and outcomes from Planet Earth, Materials and Topical Science.  Pupils will be prepared for National 4/5 chemistry courses in S4 (but may opt take up another science course in S4).

Introduction to Physics (3 periods)

Pupils will study Physics over three periods per week.  Pupils will study range of level four CfE experience and outcomes from Forces, electricity and waves in addition to Topical Science.  Pupils will be prepared for National 4/5 physics courses in S4 (but may opt take up another science course in S4).

Advanced Science (five periods)

Pupils will study science over five periods per week in this fast paced course.  They will study many of the level four CfE experiences and outcomes in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.  Pupils will be prepared for any or all of the National 4/5 science courses in S4.  Pupils will learn scientific concepts, develop problem solving and practical skills, and will learn to think critically.
